HARP SECTION INFORMATION
AUDREY DOUGLAS
Audrey Douglas grew up in West Sussex and had piano lessons from a young age and subsequently began playing the harp at the age of 12. This soon became her main instrument studying as a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music and then full time for four years.
On qualifying, Audrey was appointed harpist with the BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra and Ulster Orchestras. Six years later, Audrey moved to the Midlands where she raised a family of three daughters. She freelanced with many of the major symphony orchestras and was also the first call harpist for numerous productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford–upon-Avon. For several years, she toured with Birmingham Opera Company and performed with Longborough Opera.
Audrey continued to return regularly to Northern Ireland, touring the country with Phoenix Flute and Harp Duo. The Duo specialised in educational concerts in schools throughout the UK and were pioneers of performances for children in Art Galleries, Museums and more unusually Historic Ships and Aquariums. In recent years, Audrey has focused on solo playing and is in demand for weddings and corporate work.
Throughout her career, Audrey has taught the harp both privately and in various schools and colleges including Uppingham School, Oakham School, Malvern Girls, Malvern College and Leicestershire Arts. With a wealth of experience, Audrey offers lessons to all ages and abilities. She has a busy private teaching practice and many of her pupils have gone on to become professional harpists.
